Cannock Chase High School

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing on behalf of the Governors to let you know that, at the end of this term, Mr Barrie Scott will be retiring as our Headteacher. Mr Scott is in his sixth year of headship here, and will be leaving us to take up the post of Vicar in a parish in the Diocese of Birmingham. The Governors would like to thank Mr Scott for all he has done during his time at the school. He has been an inspirational, forward thinking Headteacher who will leave behind a strong and committed team who will continue to work together to maintain the improvements and high standards that are the strength of the school.

Mr Iain Turnbull, who is currently the Deputy Headteacher, will be Acting Headteacher from
1 January 2015. In November the Governors will advertise for a new Headteacher, with a view to making an appointment to start in April 2015. Mr Turnbull has worked closely with Mr Scott over the years and this should ensure a seamless transition in January.

In the meantime, it will be ‘business as usual’, with Mr Scott, Mr Turnbull, the Governors, staff and senior leadership team all working to ensure that the school continues to move forward so that our students’ school life is the best experience possible during their time at Cannock Chase High.

Mr Scott will be greatly missed by Governors, colleagues, students and parents. We hope you will join us in wishing Mr Scott a very happy retirement and we look forward to your continued support over the coming months.

Yours sincerely

Barrie Scott

On behalf of students and staff, I would like to welcome you to the Cannock Chase High School website

- Barrie Scott, Headteacher

CCHS is an 11-19 state-funded comprehensive school with Academy status, which was awarded to the  school in 2011 in recognition of our continuing success in improving standards. We are one of the highest  achieving schools in the area.

We have 1100 students on roll, with over 200 in the Sixth Form. Our academy status enables us to work closely with our partner primary schools, other secondary schools, colleges and local businesses, enabling us to continue to improve standards of achievement across Cannock and surrounding areas. Our 2014 Open Evening is on 23 September, and you are also welcome to visit the school at any time: please telephone reception to arrange this.

Our results over the last 4 years regularly place us in the top 5% of similar schools nationally,. The DfE said that in 2013 “There is statistically no better school within a 75 mile radius”. In 2014  29% of our year 13 students won places at some of the top Russell Group universities, and our A level results continued to improve.  The progress made by students at GCSE also stayed high, with both maths and English hitting 57% of students achieving a A*-C.

We are very proud of our successes, and of our students.

Cannock Chase High School is a great place to study and to work.
